My grandfather was an entrepreneur, opening two businesses about a mile from each other. I did not know this grandfather, he died a mere 5 days before I was born. My father then took over the 'other' business, a corner store, at age 25, but he also died young, at age 41 (familiar number!). I believe I inherited this Business Owner gene, I've named it: The Grandfather Clause.
I was blessed to have my grandmother, Grammy, in my life until 4-1/2 years ago. She was a very hard-working woman all her life, never seemed to get old, until she turned 90 years old, when her health declined steadily over 5 years. She gave me a real treasure of a Scrapbook she had kept about the businesses, beginning in 1949. Newspaper clippings which are so fragile, they may tear if opened one more time. It is my plan to make copies of these items as I open them, to share with my sister and 2 cousins, and practice Scrapbooking of 'the olden days' combined with newer techniques.
The 41 House building still stands, as a bank the past couple of decades. No longer the restaurant I vaguely remember, serving Grammy's delicious potato salad and Boston baked beans, and ice cream! I love to drive by whenever I visit my hometown area. I am eager to learn the family history thru the Scrapbook, and carry-on our other shared interests - The Red Sox, gardening and jigsaw puzzles!
This month would have been my Grammy's 100th birthday. When I bought my book, 365: A Daily Creativity Journal, last month, I decided that Friday April 1 (4-1) would be my start date for making something; that's also the Season's opening Sox game. I hope to honor my Grammy, and my memories of her, and see if this Treasure hunt leads me to the secret of their success as entrepreneurs.
Please join me in my travels thru the past, my present-day creations, and dreams for tomorrow. I'm new to blogging and welcome any insights you wish to share! You may also check out my first blog, Creations in Crochet, devoted to my primary art.
